وَٱلنَّـٰزِعَـٰتِ غَرْقًاBy those (angels) stripping out (evil souls) harshly,

Makki SurahIntroduction
This Meccan sûrah emphasizes that the Day of Judgment is inevitable and its time is known only to Allah. The destruction of Pharaoh is cited as a deterrent to the disbelievers.
In the Name of Allah—the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
In the Name of Allah—the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful.
The Hereafter Is Inevitable
1. By those (angels) stripping out (evil souls) harshly, 2. and those pulling out (good souls) gently, 3. and those gliding (through heavens) swiftly, 4. and those taking the lead vigorously, 5. and those conducting affairs (obediently)! 6. (Consider) the Day (when) the quaking Blast will come to pass, 7. followed by a second Blast. 8. (The deniers’) hearts on that Day will be trembling (in horror), 9. with their eyes downcast. 10. (But now) they ask (mockingly), “Will we really be restored to our former state, 11. even after we have been reduced to decayed bones?” 12. Adding, “Then such a return would be a (total) loss (for us)!” 13. But indeed, it will take only one (mighty) Blast, 14. and at once they will be above ground.
وَٱلنَّـٰزِعَـٰتِ غَرْقًا
١
وَٱلنَّـٰشِطَـٰتِ نَشْطًا٢
وَٱلسَّـٰبِحَـٰتِ سَبْحًا٣
فَٱلسَّـٰبِقَـٰتِ سَبْقًا٤
فَٱلْمُدَبِّرَٰتِ أَمْرًا٥
يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ ٱلرَّاجِفَةُ٦
تَتْبَعُهَا ٱلرَّادِفَةُ٧
قُلُوبٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاجِفَةٌ٨
أَبْصَـٰرُهَا خَـٰشِعَةٌ٩
يَقُولُونَ أَءِنَّا لَمَرْدُودُونَ فِى ٱلْحَافِرَةِ١٠
أَءِذَا كُنَّا عِظَـٰمًا نَّخِرَةً١١
قَالُوا تِلْكَ إِذًا كَرَّةٌ خَاسِرَةٌ١٢
فَإِنَّمَا هِىَ زَجْرَةٌ وَٰحِدَةٌ١٣
فَإِذَا هُم بِٱلسَّاهِرَةِ١٤
Surah 79 - An-Nâzi'ât (Those ˹Angels˺ Stripping out ˹Souls˺) - Verses 1-14
Pharaoh Destroyed for Denial
15. Has the story of Moses reached you (O Prophet)? 16. His Lord called him in the sacred valley of Ṭuwa, 17. (commanding,) “Go to Pharaoh, for he has truly transgressed (all bounds). 18. And say, ‘Would you (be willing to) purify yourself, 19. and let me guide you to your Lord so that you will be in awe (of Him)?’” 20. Then Moses showed him the great sign, 21. but he denied and disobeyed (Allah), 22. then turned his back, striving (against the truth). 23. Then he summoned (his people) and called out, 24. saying, “I am your lord, the most high!” 25. So Allah overtook him, making him an example in this life and the next. 26. Surely in this is a lesson for whoever stands in awe of (Allah).
هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ مُوسَىٰٓ
١٥
إِذْ نَادَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ بِٱلْوَادِ ٱلْمُقَدَّسِ طُوًى١٦
ٱذْهَبْ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّهُۥ طَغَىٰ١٧
فَقُلْ هَل لَّكَ إِلَىٰٓ أَن تَزَكَّىٰ١٨
وَأَهْدِيَكَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَتَخْشَىٰ١٩
فَأَرَىٰهُ ٱلْـَٔايَةَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ٢٠
فَكَذَّبَ وَعَصَىٰ٢١
ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ يَسْعَىٰ٢٢
فَحَشَرَ فَنَادَىٰ٢٣
فَقَالَ أَنَا۠ رَبُّكُمُ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ٢٤
فَأَخَذَهُ ٱللَّهُ نَكَالَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ وَٱلْأُولَىٰٓ٢٥
إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَعِبْرَةً لِّمَن يَخْشَىٰٓ٢٦
Surah 79 - An-Nâzi'ât (Those ˹Angels˺ Stripping out ˹Souls˺) - Verses 15-26
Resurrection Is Easier than Creation
27. Which is harder to create: you or the sky? He built it, 28. raising it high and forming it flawlessly. 29. He dimmed its night, and brought forth its daylight. 30. As for the earth, He spread it out as well, 31. bringing forth its water and pastures 32. and setting the mountains firmly (upon it)— 33. all as (a means of) sustenance for you and your animals.
ءَأَنتُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَمِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ ۚ بَنَىٰهَا
٢٧
رَفَعَ سَمْكَهَا فَسَوَّىٰهَا٢٨
وَأَغْطَشَ لَيْلَهَا وَأَخْرَجَ ضُحَىٰهَا٢٩
وَٱلْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ دَحَىٰهَآ٣٠
أَخْرَجَ مِنْهَا مَآءَهَا وَمَرْعَىٰهَا٣١
وَٱلْجِبَالَ أَرْسَىٰهَا٣٢
مَتَـٰعًا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَـٰمِكُمْ٣٣
Surah 79 - An-Nâzi'ât (Those ˹Angels˺ Stripping out ˹Souls˺) - Verses 27-33
Horrors of Judgment Day
34. But, when the Supreme Disaster comes to pass— 35. the Day every person will remember all (their) striving, 36. and the Hellfire will be displayed for all to see— 37. then as for those who transgressed 38. and preferred the (fleeting) life of this world, 39. the Hellfire will certainly be (their) home. 40. And as for those who were in awe of standing before their Lord and restrained themselves from (evil) desires, 41. Paradise will certainly be (their) home.
فَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلطَّآمَّةُ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ
٣٤
يَوْمَ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ مَا سَعَىٰ٣٥
وَبُرِّزَتِ ٱلْجَحِيمُ لِمَن يَرَىٰ٣٦
فَأَمَّا مَن طَغَىٰ٣٧
وَءَاثَرَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا٣٨
فَإِنَّ ٱلْجَحِيمَ هِىَ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰ٣٩
وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِۦ وَنَهَى ٱلنَّفْسَ عَنِ ٱلْهَوَىٰ٤٠
فَإِنَّ ٱلْجَنَّةَ هِىَ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰ٤١

Full text of Surah An-Nâzi'ât with translation
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 2
وَٱلنَّـٰشِطَـٰتِ نَشْطًاand those pulling out (good souls) gently,
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 3
وَٱلسَّـٰبِحَـٰتِ سَبْحًاand those gliding (through heavens) swiftly,
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 4
فَٱلسَّـٰبِقَـٰتِ سَبْقًاand those taking the lead vigorously,
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 5
فَٱلْمُدَبِّرَٰتِ أَمْرًاand those conducting affairs (obediently)!
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 6
يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ ٱلرَّاجِفَةُ(Consider) the Day (when) the quaking Blast will come to pass,
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 7
تَتْبَعُهَا ٱلرَّادِفَةُfollowed by a second Blast.
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 8
قُلُوبٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاجِفَةٌ(The deniers’) hearts on that Day will be trembling (in horror),
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 9
أَبْصَـٰرُهَا خَـٰشِعَةٌwith their eyes downcast.
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 10
يَقُولُونَ أَءِنَّا لَمَرْدُودُونَ فِى ٱلْحَافِرَةِ(But now) they ask (mockingly), “Will we really be restored to our former state,
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 11
أَءِذَا كُنَّا عِظَـٰمًا نَّخِرَةًeven after we have been reduced to decayed bones?”
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 12
قَالُوا تِلْكَ إِذًا كَرَّةٌ خَاسِرَةٌAdding, “Then such a return would be a (total) loss (for us)!”
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 13
فَإِنَّمَا هِىَ زَجْرَةٌ وَٰحِدَةٌBut indeed, it will take only one (mighty) Blast,
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 14
فَإِذَا هُم بِٱلسَّاهِرَةِand at once they will be above ground.
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 15
هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ مُوسَىٰٓHas the story of Moses reached you (O Prophet)?
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 16
إِذْ نَادَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ بِٱلْوَادِ ٱلْمُقَدَّسِ طُوًىHis Lord called him in the sacred valley of Ṭuwa,
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 17
ٱذْهَبْ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّهُۥ طَغَىٰ(commanding,) “Go to Pharaoh, for he has truly transgressed (all bounds).
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 18
فَقُلْ هَل لَّكَ إِلَىٰٓ أَن تَزَكَّىٰAnd say, ‘Would you (be willing to) purify yourself,
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 19
وَأَهْدِيَكَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَتَخْشَىٰand let me guide you to your Lord so that you will be in awe (of Him)?’”
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 20
فَأَرَىٰهُ ٱلْـَٔايَةَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰThen Moses showed him the great sign,
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 21
فَكَذَّبَ وَعَصَىٰbut he denied and disobeyed (Allah),
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 22
ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ يَسْعَىٰthen turned his back, striving (against the truth).
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 23
فَحَشَرَ فَنَادَىٰThen he summoned (his people) and called out,
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 24
فَقَالَ أَنَا۠ رَبُّكُمُ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰsaying, “I am your lord, the most high!”
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 25
فَأَخَذَهُ ٱللَّهُ نَكَالَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ وَٱلْأُولَىٰٓSo Allah overtook him, making him an example in this life and the next.
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 26
إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَعِبْرَةً لِّمَن يَخْشَىٰٓSurely in this is a lesson for whoever stands in awe of (Allah).
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 27
ءَأَنتُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَمِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ ۚ بَنَىٰهَاWhich is harder to create: you or the sky? He built it,
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 28
رَفَعَ سَمْكَهَا فَسَوَّىٰهَاraising it high and forming it flawlessly.
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 29
وَأَغْطَشَ لَيْلَهَا وَأَخْرَجَ ضُحَىٰهَاHe dimmed its night, and brought forth its daylight.
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 30
وَٱلْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ دَحَىٰهَآAs for the earth, He spread it out as well,
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 31
أَخْرَجَ مِنْهَا مَآءَهَا وَمَرْعَىٰهَاbringing forth its water and pastures
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 32
وَٱلْجِبَالَ أَرْسَىٰهَاand setting the mountains firmly (upon it)—
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 33
مَتَـٰعًا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَـٰمِكُمْall as (a means of) sustenance for you and your animals.
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 34
فَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلطَّآمَّةُ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰBut, when the Supreme Disaster comes to pass—
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 35
يَوْمَ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ مَا سَعَىٰthe Day every person will remember all (their) striving,
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 36
وَبُرِّزَتِ ٱلْجَحِيمُ لِمَن يَرَىٰand the Hellfire will be displayed for all to see—

فَأَمَّا مَن طَغَىٰthen as for those who transgressed
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 38
وَءَاثَرَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَاand preferred the (fleeting) life of this world,
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 39
فَإِنَّ ٱلْجَحِيمَ هِىَ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰthe Hellfire will certainly be (their) home.
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 40
وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِۦ وَنَهَى ٱلنَّفْسَ عَنِ ٱلْهَوَىٰAnd as for those who were in awe of standing before their Lord and restrained themselves from (evil) desires,
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 41
فَإِنَّ ٱلْجَنَّةَ هِىَ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰParadise will certainly be (their) home.
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 42
يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلسَّاعَةِ أَيَّانَ مُرْسَىٰهَاThey ask you (O Prophet) regarding the Hour, “When will it be?”
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 43
فِيمَ أَنتَ مِن ذِكْرَىٰهَآBut it is not for you to tell its time.
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 44
إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ مُنتَهَىٰهَآThat knowledge rests with your Lord (alone).
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 45
إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُنذِرُ مَن يَخْشَىٰهَاYour duty is only to warn whoever is in awe of it.
Surah An-Nâzi'ât, verse 46
كَأَنَّهُمْ يَوْمَ يَرَوْنَهَا لَمْ يَلْبَثُوٓا إِلَّا عَشِيَّةً أَوْ ضُحَىٰهَاOn the Day they see it, it will be as if they had stayed (in the world) no more than one evening or its morning.
