Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 1
وَٱلْمُرْسَلَـٰتِ عُرْفًاBy those (winds) sent forth successively,

Al-Mursalât (Those ˹Winds˺ Sent Forth)
Makki SurahIntroduction
Like the two previous sûrahs and the next two sûrahs, this Meccan sûrah makes it clear that Allah’s power to create should be taken as a proof of His ability to bring the dead back to life for judgment. The horrors of the Hour and the punishment of the wicked are stated in strong terms.
In the Name of Allah—the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
In the Name of Allah—the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful.
Judgment Day Is Inevitable
1. By those (winds) sent forth successively, 2. and those blowing violently, 3. and those scattering (rainclouds) widely! 4. And (by) those (angels) fully distinguishing (truth from falsehood), 5. and those delivering revelation, 6. ending excuses and giving warnings. 7. Surely, what you are promised will come to pass.
وَٱلْمُرْسَلَـٰتِ عُرْفًا
١
فَٱلْعَـٰصِفَـٰتِ عَصْفًا٢
وَٱلنَّـٰشِرَٰتِ نَشْرًا٣
فَٱلْفَـٰرِقَـٰتِ فَرْقًا٤
فَٱلْمُلْقِيَـٰتِ ذِكْرًا٥
عُذْرًا أَوْ نُذْرًا٦
إِنَّمَا تُوعَدُونَ لَوَٰقِعٌ٧
Surah 77 - Al-Mursalât (Those ˹Winds˺ Sent Forth) - Verses 1-7
Horrors of Judgment Day
8. So when the stars are put out, 9. and the sky is torn apart, 10. and the mountains are blown away, 11. and the messengers’ time (to testify) comes up— 12. for which Day has all this been set? 13. For the Day of (Final) Decision! 14. And what will make you realize what the Day of Decision is? 15. Woe on that Day to the deniers!
فَإِذَا ٱلنُّجُومُ طُمِسَتْ
٨
وَإِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ فُرِجَتْ٩
وَإِذَا ٱلْجِبَالُ نُسِفَتْ١٠
وَإِذَا ٱلرُّسُلُ أُقِّتَتْ١١
لِأَىِّ يَوْمٍ أُجِّلَتْ١٢
لِيَوْمِ ٱلْفَصْلِ١٣
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا يَوْمُ ٱلْفَصْلِ١٤
وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ١٥
Surah 77 - Al-Mursalât (Those ˹Winds˺ Sent Forth) - Verses 8-15
Allah’s Infinite Power
16. Did We not destroy earlier disbelievers? 17. And We will make the later disbelievers follow them. 18. This is how We deal with the wicked. 19. Woe on that Day to the deniers! 20. Did We not create you from a humble fluid, 21. placing it in a secure place. 22. until an appointed time? 23. We (perfectly) ordained (its development). How excellent are We in doing so! 24. Woe on that Day to the deniers! 25. Have We not made the earth a lodging 26. for the living and the dead, 27. and placed upon it towering, firm mountains, and given you fresh water to drink? 28. Woe on that Day to the deniers!
أَلَمْ نُهْلِكِ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
١٦
ثُمَّ نُتْبِعُهُمُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ١٧
كَذَٰلِكَ نَفْعَلُ بِٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ١٨
وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ١٩
أَلَمْ نَخْلُقكُّم مِّن مَّآءٍ مَّهِينٍ٢٠
فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُ فِى قَرَارٍ مَّكِينٍ٢١
إِلَىٰ قَدَرٍ مَّعْلُومٍ٢٢
فَقَدَرْنَا فَنِعْمَ ٱلْقَـٰدِرُونَ٢٣
وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ٢٤
أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ ٱلْأَرْضَ كِفَاتًا٢٥
أَحْيَآءً وَأَمْوَٰتًا٢٦
وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا رَوَٰسِىَ شَـٰمِخَـٰتٍ وَأَسْقَيْنَـٰكُم مَّآءً فُرَاتًا٢٧
وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ٢٨
Surah 77 - Al-Mursalât (Those ˹Winds˺ Sent Forth) - Verses 16-28
Bad News for the Deniers of Hell
29. (The disbelievers will be told,) “Proceed into that (Fire) which you used to deny! 30. Proceed into the shade (of smoke) which rises in three columns, 31. providing neither coolness nor shelter from the flames. 32. Indeed, it hurls sparks (as big) as huge castles, 33. and (as dark) as black camels.” 34. Woe on that Day to the deniers! 35. Woe on that Day to the deniers! 36. nor will they be permitted to offer excuses. 37. Woe on that Day to the deniers! 38. (They will be told by Allah,) “This is the Day of (Final) Decision: We have gathered you along with earlier disbelievers (for punishment). 39. So if you have a scheme (to save yourselves), then use it against Me.” 40. Woe on that Day to the deniers!
ٱنطَلِقُوٓا إِلَىٰ مَا كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ
٢٩
ٱنطَلِقُوٓا إِلَىٰ ظِلٍّ ذِى ثَلَـٰثِ شُعَبٍ٣٠
لَّا ظَلِيلٍ وَلَا يُغْنِى مِنَ ٱللَّهَبِ٣١
إِنَّهَا تَرْمِى بِشَرَرٍ كَٱلْقَصْرِ٣٢
كَأَنَّهُۥ جِمَـٰلَتٌ صُفْرٌ٣٣
وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ٣٤
هَـٰذَا يَوْمُ لَا يَنطِقُونَ٣٥
وَلَا يُؤْذَنُ لَهُمْ فَيَعْتَذِرُونَ٣٦
وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ٣٧
هَـٰذَا يَوْمُ ٱلْفَصْلِ ۖ جَمَعْنَـٰكُمْ وَٱلْأَوَّلِينَ٣٨
فَإِن كَانَ لَكُمْ كَيْدٌ فَكِيدُونِ٣٩
وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ٤٠
Surah 77 - Al-Mursalât (Those ˹Winds˺ Sent Forth) - Verses 29-40
Full text of Surah Al-Mursalât with translation
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 2
فَٱلْعَـٰصِفَـٰتِ عَصْفًاand those blowing violently,
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 3
وَٱلنَّـٰشِرَٰتِ نَشْرًاand those scattering (rainclouds) widely!
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 4
فَٱلْفَـٰرِقَـٰتِ فَرْقًاAnd (by) those (angels) fully distinguishing (truth from falsehood),
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 5
فَٱلْمُلْقِيَـٰتِ ذِكْرًاand those delivering revelation,
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 6
عُذْرًا أَوْ نُذْرًاending excuses and giving warnings.
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 7
إِنَّمَا تُوعَدُونَ لَوَٰقِعٌSurely, what you are promised will come to pass.
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 8
فَإِذَا ٱلنُّجُومُ طُمِسَتْSo when the stars are put out,
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 9
وَإِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ فُرِجَتْand the sky is torn apart,
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 10
وَإِذَا ٱلْجِبَالُ نُسِفَتْand the mountains are blown away,
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 11
وَإِذَا ٱلرُّسُلُ أُقِّتَتْand the messengers’ time (to testify) comes up—
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 12
لِأَىِّ يَوْمٍ أُجِّلَتْfor which Day has all this been set?
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 13
لِيَوْمِ ٱلْفَصْلِFor the Day of (Final) Decision!
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 14
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا يَوْمُ ٱلْفَصْلِAnd what will make you realize what the Day of Decision is?
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 15
وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَWoe on that Day to the deniers!
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 16
أَلَمْ نُهْلِكِ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَDid We not destroy earlier disbelievers?
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 17
ثُمَّ نُتْبِعُهُمُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَAnd We will make the later disbelievers follow them.
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 18
كَذَٰلِكَ نَفْعَلُ بِٱلْمُجْرِمِينَThis is how We deal with the wicked.
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 19
وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَWoe on that Day to the deniers!
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 20
أَلَمْ نَخْلُقكُّم مِّن مَّآءٍ مَّهِينٍDid We not create you from a humble fluid,
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 21
فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُ فِى قَرَارٍ مَّكِينٍplacing it in a secure place.
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 22
إِلَىٰ قَدَرٍ مَّعْلُومٍuntil an appointed time?
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 23
فَقَدَرْنَا فَنِعْمَ ٱلْقَـٰدِرُونَWe (perfectly) ordained (its development). How excellent are We in doing so!
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 24
وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَWoe on that Day to the deniers!
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 25
أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ ٱلْأَرْضَ كِفَاتًاHave We not made the earth a lodging
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 26
أَحْيَآءً وَأَمْوَٰتًاfor the living and the dead,
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 27
وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا رَوَٰسِىَ شَـٰمِخَـٰتٍ وَأَسْقَيْنَـٰكُم مَّآءً فُرَاتًاand placed upon it towering, firm mountains, and given you fresh water to drink?
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 28
وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَWoe on that Day to the deniers!
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 29
ٱنطَلِقُوٓا إِلَىٰ مَا كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ(The disbelievers will be told,) “Proceed into that (Fire) which you used to deny!
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 30
ٱنطَلِقُوٓا إِلَىٰ ظِلٍّ ذِى ثَلَـٰثِ شُعَبٍProceed into the shade (of smoke) which rises in three columns,
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 31
لَّا ظَلِيلٍ وَلَا يُغْنِى مِنَ ٱللَّهَبِproviding neither coolness nor shelter from the flames.
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 32
إِنَّهَا تَرْمِى بِشَرَرٍ كَٱلْقَصْرِIndeed, it hurls sparks (as big) as huge castles,
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 33
كَأَنَّهُۥ جِمَـٰلَتٌ صُفْرٌand (as dark) as black camels.”
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 34
وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَWoe on that Day to the deniers!
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 35
هَـٰذَا يَوْمُ لَا يَنطِقُونَWoe on that Day to the deniers!
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 36
وَلَا يُؤْذَنُ لَهُمْ فَيَعْتَذِرُونَnor will they be permitted to offer excuses.
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 37
وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَWoe on that Day to the deniers!
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 38
هَـٰذَا يَوْمُ ٱلْفَصْلِ ۖ جَمَعْنَـٰكُمْ وَٱلْأَوَّلِينَ(They will be told by Allah,) “This is the Day of (Final) Decision: We have gathered you along with earlier disbelievers (for punishment).
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 39
فَإِن كَانَ لَكُمْ كَيْدٌ فَكِيدُونِSo if you have a scheme (to save yourselves), then use it against Me.”
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 40
وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَWoe on that Day to the deniers!
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 41
إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى ظِلَـٰلٍ وَعُيُونٍIndeed, the righteous will be amid (cool) shade and springs
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 42
وَفَوَٰكِهَ مِمَّا يَشْتَهُونَand any fruit they desire.
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 43
كُلُوا وَٱشْرَبُوا هَنِيٓـًٔۢا بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ(They will be told,) “Eat and drink happily for what you used to do.”
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 44
إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَSurely this is how We reward the good-doers.
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 45
وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ(But) woe on that Day to the deniers!
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 46
كُلُوا وَتَمَتَّعُوا قَلِيلًا إِنَّكُم مُّجْرِمُونَ“Eat and enjoy yourselves for a little while, (for) you are truly wicked.”
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 47
وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَWoe on that Day to the deniers!
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 48
وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ ٱرْكَعُوا لَا يَرْكَعُونَWhen it is said to them, “Bow down (before Allah,” they do not bow.
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 49
وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَWoe on that Day to the deniers!
Surah Al-Mursalât, verse 50
فَبِأَىِّ حَدِيثٍۭ بَعْدَهُۥ يُؤْمِنُونَSo what message after this (Quran) would they believe in?
