Surah Al-Muzzammil, verse 1
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْمُزَّمِّلُO you wrapped (in your clothes)!

Makki SurahIntroduction
This early Meccan sûrah prepares the Prophet (ﷺ) for the commandments yet to be revealed and the challenges ahead. The Prophet (ﷺ) is advised, both in this sûrah and the next, to seek comfort in patience and prayer, whereas the arrogant disbelievers are warned of a horrible punishment in Hell.
In the Name of Allah—the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
In the Name of Allah—the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful.
Empowering the Prophet Through Prayer
1. O you wrapped (in your clothes)! 2. Stand all night (in prayer) except a little— 3. (pray) half the night, or a little less, 4. or a little more—and recite the Quran (properly) in a measured way. 5. (For) We will soon send upon you a weighty revelation. 6. Indeed, worship in the night is more impactful and suitable for recitation. 7. For during the day you are over-occupied (with worldly duties). 8. (Always) remember the Name of your Lord, and devote yourself to Him wholeheartedly. 9. (He is the) Lord of the east and the west. There is no god (worthy of worship) except Him, so take Him (alone) as a Trustee of Affairs.
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْمُزَّمِّلُ
١
قُمِ ٱلَّيْلَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا٢
نِّصْفَهُۥٓ أَوِ ٱنقُصْ مِنْهُ قَلِيلًا٣
أَوْ زِدْ عَلَيْهِ وَرَتِّلِ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ تَرْتِيلًا٤
إِنَّا سَنُلْقِى عَلَيْكَ قَوْلًا ثَقِيلًا٥
إِنَّ نَاشِئَةَ ٱلَّيْلِ هِىَ أَشَدُّ وَطْـًٔا وَأَقْوَمُ قِيلًا٦
إِنَّ لَكَ فِى ٱلنَّهَارِ سَبْحًا طَوِيلًا٧
وَٱذْكُرِ ٱسْمَ رَبِّكَ وَتَبَتَّلْ إِلَيْهِ تَبْتِيلًا٨
رَّبُّ ٱلْمَشْرِقِ وَٱلْمَغْرِبِ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ فَٱتَّخِذْهُ وَكِيلًا٩
Surah 73 - Al-Muzzammil (The Wrapped One) - Verses 1-9
Reassuring the Prophet
10. Be patient (O Prophet) with what they say, and depart from them courteously. 11. And leave to Me the deniers—the people of luxury—and bear with them for a little while. 12. (For) We certainly have shackles, a (raging) Fire, 13. choking food, and a painful punishment (in store for them) 14. on the Day the earth and mountains will shake (violently), and mountains will be (reduced to) dunes of shifting sand.
وَٱصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَٱهْجُرْهُمْ هَجْرًا جَمِيلًا
١٠
وَذَرْنِى وَٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ أُولِى ٱلنَّعْمَةِ وَمَهِّلْهُمْ قَلِيلًا١١
إِنَّ لَدَيْنَآ أَنكَالًا وَجَحِيمًا١٢
وَطَعَامًا ذَا غُصَّةٍ وَعَذَابًا أَلِيمًا١٣
يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ ٱلْأَرْضُ وَٱلْجِبَالُ وَكَانَتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَثِيبًا مَّهِيلًا١٤

A Warning to the Polytheists
15. Indeed, We have sent to you a messenger as a witness over you, just as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. 16. But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a stern grip. 17. If you (pagans) persist in disbelief, then how will you guard yourselves against (the horrors of) a Day which will turn children’s hair grey? 18. It will (even) cause the sky to split apart. His promise (of judgment) must be fulfilled. 19. Surely this is a reminder. So let whoever wills take the (Right) Way to their Lord.
إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَآ إِلَيْكُمْ رَسُولًا شَـٰهِدًا عَلَيْكُمْ كَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَآ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ رَسُولًا
١٥
فَعَصَىٰ فِرْعَوْنُ ٱلرَّسُولَ فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُ أَخْذًا وَبِيلًا١٦
فَكَيْفَ تَتَّقُونَ إِن كَفَرْتُمْ يَوْمًا يَجْعَلُ ٱلْوِلْدَٰنَ شِيبًا١٧
ٱلسَّمَآءُ مُنفَطِرٌۢ بِهِۦ ۚ كَانَ وَعْدُهُۥ مَفْعُولًا١٨
إِنَّ هَـٰذِهِۦ تَذْكِرَةٌ ۖ فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ سَبِيلًا١٩

Night Prayers Eased
20. Surely your Lord knows that you (O Prophet) stand (in prayer) for nearly two-thirds of the night, or (sometimes) half of it, or a third, as do some of those with you. Allah (alone) keeps a (precise) measure of the day and night. He knows that you (believers) are unable to endure this, and has turned to you in mercy. So recite (in prayer) whatever you can from the Quran. He knows that some of you will be sick, some will be travelling throughout the land seeking Allah’s bounty, and some fighting in the cause of Allah. So recite whatever you can from it. And (continue to) perform (regular) prayers, pay alms-tax, and lend to Allah a good loan. Whatever good you send forth for yourselves, you will find it with Allah far better and more rewarding. And seek Allah’s forgiveness. Surely Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
۞ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ تَقُومُ أَدْنَىٰ مِن ثُلُثَىِ ٱلَّيْلِ وَنِصْفَهُۥ وَثُلُثَهُۥ وَطَآئِفَةٌ مِّنَ ٱلَّذِينَ مَعَكَ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ يُقَدِّرُ ٱلَّيْلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَ ۚ عَلِمَ أَن لَّن تُحْصُوهُ فَتَابَ عَلَيْكُمْ ۖ فَٱقْرَءُوا مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنَ ٱلْقُرْءَانِ ۚ عَلِمَ أَن سَيَكُونُ مِنكُم مَّرْضَىٰ ۙ وَءَاخَرُونَ يَضْرِبُونَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ يَبْتَغُونَ مِن فَضْلِ ٱللَّهِ ۙ وَءَاخَرُونَ يُقَـٰتِلُونَ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ فَٱقْرَءُوا مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنْهُ ۚ وَأَقِيمُوا ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتُوا ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَأَقْرِضُوا ٱللَّهَ قَرْضًا حَسَنًا ۚ وَمَا تُقَدِّمُوا لِأَنفُسِكُم مِّنْ خَيْرٍ تَجِدُوهُ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ هُوَ خَيْرًا وَأَعْظَمَ أَجْرًا ۚ وَٱسْتَغْفِرُوا ٱللَّهَ ۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌۢ

Surah Al-Muzzammil, verse 2
قُمِ ٱلَّيْلَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًاStand all night (in prayer) except a little—
Surah Al-Muzzammil, verse 3
نِّصْفَهُۥٓ أَوِ ٱنقُصْ مِنْهُ قَلِيلًا(pray) half the night, or a little less,
Surah Al-Muzzammil, verse 4
أَوْ زِدْ عَلَيْهِ وَرَتِّلِ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ تَرْتِيلًاor a little more—and recite the Quran (properly) in a measured way.
Surah Al-Muzzammil, verse 5
إِنَّا سَنُلْقِى عَلَيْكَ قَوْلًا ثَقِيلًا(For) We will soon send upon you a weighty revelation.
Surah Al-Muzzammil, verse 6
إِنَّ نَاشِئَةَ ٱلَّيْلِ هِىَ أَشَدُّ وَطْـًٔا وَأَقْوَمُ قِيلًاIndeed, worship in the night is more impactful and suitable for recitation.
Surah Al-Muzzammil, verse 7
إِنَّ لَكَ فِى ٱلنَّهَارِ سَبْحًا طَوِيلًاFor during the day you are over-occupied (with worldly duties).
Surah Al-Muzzammil, verse 8
وَٱذْكُرِ ٱسْمَ رَبِّكَ وَتَبَتَّلْ إِلَيْهِ تَبْتِيلًا(Always) remember the Name of your Lord, and devote yourself to Him wholeheartedly.
Surah Al-Muzzammil, verse 9
رَّبُّ ٱلْمَشْرِقِ وَٱلْمَغْرِبِ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ فَٱتَّخِذْهُ وَكِيلًا(He is the) Lord of the east and the west. There is no god (worthy of worship) except Him, so take Him (alone) as a Trustee of Affairs.
Surah Al-Muzzammil, verse 10
وَٱصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَٱهْجُرْهُمْ هَجْرًا جَمِيلًاBe patient (O Prophet) with what they say, and depart from them courteously.
Surah Al-Muzzammil, verse 11
وَذَرْنِى وَٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ أُولِى ٱلنَّعْمَةِ وَمَهِّلْهُمْ قَلِيلًاAnd leave to Me the deniers—the people of luxury—and bear with them for a little while.

Surah Al-Muzzammil, verse 14
يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ ٱلْأَرْضُ وَٱلْجِبَالُ وَكَانَتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَثِيبًا مَّهِيلًاon the Day the earth and mountains will shake (violently), and mountains will be (reduced to) dunes of shifting sand.
Surah Al-Muzzammil, verse 15

Surah Al-Muzzammil, verse 16

Surah Al-Muzzammil, verse 18
ٱلسَّمَآءُ مُنفَطِرٌۢ بِهِۦ ۚ كَانَ وَعْدُهُۥ مَفْعُولًاIt will (even) cause the sky to split apart. His promise (of judgment) must be fulfilled.
Surah Al-Muzzammil, verse 19
إِنَّ هَـٰذِهِۦ تَذْكِرَةٌ ۖ فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ سَبِيلًاSurely this is a reminder. So let whoever wills take the (Right) Way to their Lord.
