At-Taghâbun (Surah 64)

Introduction

This Medinian sûrah takes its name from the reference to the Day of Judgment in verse 9, where people are divided into winners and losers. Since the last sûrah closes by urging the believers to donate before they are overtaken by death, this sûrah opens by emphasizing Allah’s power to create and His ability to bring the dead back to life for judgment. The sûrah concludes by bidding the believers to spend in the cause of Allah, and not be discouraged by concerns for their spouses and children.
