Ash-Shûra (Surah 42)

Introduction

This Meccan sûrah takes its name from verse 38 which talks about conducting affairs by mutual consultation as one of the qualities of the true believers. The sûrah emphasizes that Allah has decreed for Muslims the same religion ordained for all the previous prophets. The believers are commanded to resort to Allah’s judgment if disagreement arises. Allah’s oneness, power, and wisdom are emphasized as the pagans’ faith in powerless idols is condemned.
