LEARNING POINTS
This `surah` confirms Allah's oneness, wisdom, and power.
Islam is the message of all the prophets.
Muslims should obey Allah when they disagree on something.
Allah will reward those who forgive and make peace.
The idol-worshippers are doomed for worshipping useless idols.
The wicked will show regret on Judgment Day, but it will be too late.
The Quran is definitely a revelation from Allah.
ALMIGHTY ALLAH
1Ha-Mim. 2Ain-Sin-Qaf. 3And so you 'O Prophet' are sent revelations, just like those before you, by Allah—the Almighty and Wise. 4Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth belongs to Him. And He is the Most High, the Greatest. 5The heavens almost burst, one above the other 'in humility'. And the angels praise the glory of their Lord, and seek forgiveness for those on earth. Surely Allah 'alone' is the Forgiving and Merciful.
حمٓ 1عٓسٓقٓ 2كَذَٰلِكَ يُوحِيٓ إِلَيۡكَ وَإِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبۡلِكَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلۡحَكِيمُ 3لَهُۥ مَا فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ وَهُوَ ٱلۡعَلِيُّ ٱلۡعَظِيمُ 4تَكَادُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتُ يَتَفَطَّرۡنَ مِن فَوۡقِهِنَّۚ وَٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ يُسَبِّحُونَ بِحَمۡدِ رَبِّهِمۡ وَيَسۡتَغۡفِرُونَ لِمَن فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِۗ أَلَآ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلۡغَفُورُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ5
ALLAH IS THE PROTECTOR
6As for those who take other protectors besides Him, Allah is watching them. And you 'O Prophet' are not a keeper over them. 7And so We have revealed to you a Quran in Arabic, so you may warn the 'Mother of Cities' and everyone around it, and warn of the Day of Gathering—about which there is no doubt—'when' a group will be in Jannah and another in the Flame. 8If Allah wanted, He could have easily made all 'humanity' into a single community 'of believers'. But He enters whoever He wants into His mercy. And those who do wrong will have no protector or helper. 9How can they take protectors besides Him? Allah alone is the Protector. He 'alone' gives life to the dead. And He 'alone' has power over all things.
وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّخَذُواْ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ أَوۡلِيَآءَ ٱللَّهُ حَفِيظٌ عَلَيۡهِمۡ وَمَآ أَنتَ عَلَيۡهِم بِوَكِيلٖ 6وَكَذَٰلِكَ أَوۡحَيۡنَآ إِلَيۡكَ قُرۡءَانًا عَرَبِيّٗا لِّتُنذِرَ أُمَّ ٱلۡقُرَىٰ وَمَنۡ حَوۡلَهَا وَتُنذِرَ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡجَمۡعِ لَا رَيۡبَ فِيهِۚ فَرِيقٞ فِي ٱلۡجَنَّةِ وَفَرِيقٞ فِي ٱلسَّعِيرِ 7وَلَوۡ شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ لَجَعَلَهُمۡ أُمَّةٗ وَٰحِدَةٗ وَلَٰكِن يُدۡخِلُ مَن يَشَآءُ فِي رَحۡمَتِهِۦۚ وَٱلظَّٰلِمُونَ مَا لَهُم مِّن وَلِيّٖ وَلَا نَصِيرٍ 8أَمِ ٱتَّخَذُواْ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ أَوۡلِيَآءَۖ فَٱللَّهُ هُوَ ٱلۡوَلِيُّ وَهُوَ يُحۡيِ ٱلۡمَوۡتَىٰ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيۡءٖ قَدِير9
ALLAH IS THE CREATOR AND PROVIDER
10'Say to the believers, O Prophet,' "Whatever you may differ about, its judgment is with Allah. That is Allah—my Lord. In Him I put my trust, and to Him I 'always' turn 11'He is' the Creator of the heavens and the earth. He has made for you spouses from among yourselves, and made' mates for cattle as well'—multiplying you 'both'. There is nothing like Him, and He 'alone' hears and sees 'everything'. 12The keys 'of the treasures' of the heavens and the earth belong to Him. He gives generous or limited resources to whoever He wants. Surely He has 'perfect' knowledge of all things.
وَمَا ٱخۡتَلَفۡتُمۡ فِيهِ مِن شَيۡءٖ فَحُكۡمُهُۥٓ إِلَى ٱللَّهِۚ ذَٰلِكُمُ ٱللَّهُ رَبِّي عَلَيۡهِ تَوَكَّلۡتُ وَإِلَيۡهِ أُنِيبُ 10فَاطِرُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ جَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنۡ أَنفُسِكُمۡ أَزۡوَٰجٗا وَمِنَ ٱلۡأَنۡعَٰمِ أَزۡوَٰجٗا يَذۡرَؤُكُمۡ فِيهِۚ لَيۡسَ كَمِثۡلِهِۦ شَيۡءٞۖ وَهُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلۡبَصِيرُ 11لَهُۥ مَقَالِيدُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ يَبۡسُطُ ٱلرِّزۡقَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيَقۡدِرُۚ إِنَّهُۥ بِكُلِّ شَيۡءٍ عَلِيمٞ12
ONE RELIGION, DIFFERENT LAWS!
13He has established for you 'believers' the same Way that He assigned for Nuh, and what We have revealed to you 'O Prophet', and what We assigned for Ibrahim, Musa, and 'Isa,' ordering: "Keep up the faith, and make no divisions in it." What you call the 'idol-worshippers' to is unbearable to them. Allah choses for Himself whoever He wants, and guides to Himself 'whoever turns to Him'. 14People became divided 'into believers and disbelievers' because of jealousy only when knowledge came to them.³ If it was not for a decision already made by your Lord for a set time, their differences would have been settled 'immediately'. And surely those who were given the Book after them are truly in disturbing doubt about this 'Quran'.
شَرَعَ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلدِّينِ مَا وَصَّىٰ بِهِۦ نُوحٗا وَٱلَّذِيٓ أَوۡحَيۡنَآ إِلَيۡكَ وَمَا وَصَّيۡنَا بِهِۦٓ إِبۡرَٰهِيمَ وَمُوسَىٰ وَعِيسَىٰٓۖ أَنۡ أَقِيمُواْ ٱلدِّينَ وَلَا تَتَفَرَّقُواْ فِيهِۚ كَبُرَ عَلَى ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِينَ مَا تَدۡعُوهُمۡ إِلَيۡهِۚ ٱللَّهُ يَجۡتَبِيٓ إِلَيۡهِ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَهۡدِيٓ إِلَيۡهِ مَن يُنِيبُ 13وَمَا تَفَرَّقُوٓاْ إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا جَآءَهُمُ ٱلۡعِلۡمُ بَغۡيَۢا بَيۡنَهُمۡۚ وَلَوۡلَا كَلِمَةٞ سَبَقَتۡ مِن رَّبِّكَ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٖ مُّسَمّٗى لَّقُضِيَ بَيۡنَهُمۡۚ وَإِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ أُورِثُواْ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡ لَفِي شَكّٖ مِّنۡهُ مُرِيبٖ14
INVITATION TO THE PEOPLE OF THE BOOK
15Because of that, you 'O Prophet' will invite 'all to Islam'. Stay true in faith as you are commanded and do not follow their desires. And say, "I believe in every Book Allah has revealed. And I am ordered to judge fairly among you. Allah is our Lord and your Lord. We will be accountable for our deeds, and you will be accountable for your deeds. There is no 'need for' argument between us. Allah will gather us together 'for judgment'. And to Him is the final return." 16As for those who argue about Allah after He 'is already' recognized by many', their argument is useless with their Lord. They deserve anger, and they will have a severe punishment.
فَلِذَٰلِكَ فَٱدۡعُۖ وَٱسۡتَقِمۡ كَمَآ أُمِرۡتَۖ وَلَا تَتَّبِعۡ أَهۡوَآءَهُمۡۖ وَقُلۡ ءَامَنتُ بِمَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ مِن كِتَٰبٖۖ وَأُمِرۡتُ لِأَعۡدِلَ بَيۡنَكُمُۖ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّنَا وَرَبُّكُمۡۖ لَنَآ أَعۡمَٰلُنَا وَلَكُمۡ أَعۡمَٰلُكُمۡۖ لَا حُجَّةَ بَيۡنَنَا وَبَيۡنَكُمُۖ ٱللَّهُ يَجۡمَعُ بَيۡنَنَاۖ وَإِلَيۡهِ ٱلۡمَصِيرُ 15وَٱلَّذِينَ يُحَآجُّونَ فِي ٱللَّهِ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا ٱسۡتُجِيبَ لَهُۥ حُجَّتُهُمۡ دَاحِضَةٌ عِندَ رَبِّهِمۡ وَعَلَيۡهِمۡ غَضَبٞ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابٞ شَدِيدٌ16
A REMINDER OF JUDGMENT DAY
17Allah is the One Who has revealed the Book with the truth and the 'balance of justice'. You never know, maybe the Hour 'of Judgment' is near. 18Those who disbelieve in it 'mockingly' ask to speed it up. But the believers are worried of it, knowing that it is the truth. Surely those who argue about the Hour have strayed far away.
ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِيٓ أَنزَلَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَٱلۡمِيزَانَۗ وَمَا يُدۡرِيكَ لَعَلَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ قَرِيبٞ 17يَسۡتَعۡجِلُ بِهَا ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤۡمِنُونَ بِهَاۖ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ مُشۡفِقُونَ مِنۡهَا وَيَعۡلَمُونَ أَنَّهَا ٱلۡحَقُّۗ أَلَآ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يُمَارُونَ فِي ٱلسَّاعَةِ لَفِي ضَلَٰلِۢ بَعِيدٍ18
ALLAH'S KINDNESS
19Allah is always Kind to His servants. He provides 'generously' to whoever He wants. And He is the Powerful and Almighty. 20Whoever desires the harvest of the Next Life, We will increase their harvest. And whoever desires 'only' the harvest of this world, We will give them some of it, but they will have no share in the Next Life.
ٱللَّهُ لَطِيفُۢ بِعِبَادِهِۦ يَرۡزُقُ مَن يَشَآءُۖ وَهُوَ ٱلۡقَوِيُّ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ 19مَن كَانَ يُرِيدُ حَرۡثَ ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ نَزِدۡ لَهُۥ فِي حَرۡثِهِۦۖ وَمَن كَانَ يُرِيدُ حَرۡثَ ٱلدُّنۡيَا نُؤۡتِهِۦ مِنۡهَا وَمَا لَهُۥ فِي ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ مِن نَّصِيبٍ20
REWARD OF THE BELIEVERS AND IDOL-WORSHIPPERS
21Or do they have some gods who have set up for them some false' beliefs—which is something Allah would never approve? If it was not for a decision already made for Judgment, this issue would have certainly been decided between them 'immediately'. And surely those who do wrong will suffer a painful punishment. 22You will see those who do wrong terrified 'of the punishment' for what they did, but it will definitely overwhelm them. But those who believe and do good will be in the 'awesome' Gardens of Jannah. They will have whatever they want from their Lord. That is 'truly' the greatest blessing. 23This reward' is the good news which Allah gives to His servants who believe and do good. Say, 'O Prophet,' “I am not asking you 'Makkan deniers' for any fees 'for this message' only respect for 'our' family ties." Whoever earns a good deed, We will increase it in goodness for them. Surely Allah is Forgiving and Appreciating.
أَمۡ لَهُمۡ شُرَكَٰٓؤُاْ شَرَعُواْ لَهُم مِّنَ ٱلدِّينِ مَا لَمۡ يَأۡذَنۢ بِهِ ٱللَّهُۚ وَلَوۡلَا كَلِمَةُ ٱلۡفَصۡلِ لَقُضِيَ بَيۡنَهُمۡۗ وَإِنَّ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ لَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٞ 21تَرَى ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ مُشۡفِقِينَ مِمَّا كَسَبُواْ وَهُوَ وَاقِعُۢ بِهِمۡۗ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ فِي رَوۡضَاتِ ٱلۡجَنَّاتِۖ لَهُم مَّا يَشَآءُونَ عِندَ رَبِّهِمۡۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلۡفَضۡلُ ٱلۡكَبِيرُ 22ذَٰلِكَ ٱلَّذِي يُبَشِّرُ ٱللَّهُ عِبَادَهُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِۗ قُل لَّآ أَسَۡٔلُكُمۡ عَلَيۡهِ أَجۡرًا إِلَّا ٱلۡمَوَدَّةَ فِي ٱلۡقُرۡبَىٰۗ وَمَن يَقۡتَرِفۡ حَسَنَةٗ نَّزِدۡ لَهُۥ فِيهَا حُسۡنًاۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٞ شَكُورٌ23
IS THE QURAN MADE UP?
24Or do they say, “He made up a lie about Allah!”? 'If you did,' Allah would have sealed your heart, if He wanted. And Allah wipes out falsehood and confirms the truth by His Words. He surely knows best whatever 'secrets are hidden' in the 'hearts'.
أَمۡ يَقُولُونَ ٱفۡتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبٗاۖ فَإِن يَشَإِ ٱللَّهُ يَخۡتِمۡ عَلَىٰ قَلۡبِكَۗ وَيَمۡحُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡبَٰطِلَ وَيُحِقُّ ٱلۡحَقَّ بِكَلِمَٰتِهِۦٓۚ إِنَّهُۥ عَلِيمُۢ بِذَاتِ ٱلصُّدُورِ24
ALMIGHTY ALLAH
25He is the One Who accepts repentance from His servants and forgives 'their' sins. And He knows whatever you do. 26He responds to those who believe and do good, and increases their reward out of His blessings. As for the disbelievers, they will have a severe punishment.
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِي يَقۡبَلُ ٱلتَّوۡبَةَ عَنۡ عِبَادِهِۦ وَيَعۡفُواْ عَنِ ٱلسَّئَِّاتِ وَيَعۡلَمُ مَا تَفۡعَلُونَ 25وَيَسۡتَجِيبُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ وَيَزِيدُهُم مِّن فَضۡلِهِۦۚ وَٱلۡكَٰفِرُونَ لَهُمۡ عَذَابٞ شَدِيد26
ALLAH'S MERCY: 1) RESOURCES
27If Allah gave unlimited resources to 'all' His servants, they would have certainly gone out of control throughout the land. But He sends down whatever He wants in perfect measure. Surely He fully knows and sees His servants. 28He is the One Who sends down rain after people have lost all hope, spreading out His mercy. He is the Guardian, Deserving Praise.
وَلَوۡ بَسَطَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلرِّزۡقَ لِعِبَادِهِۦ لَبَغَوۡاْ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَلَٰكِن يُنَزِّلُ بِقَدَرٖ مَّا يَشَآءُۚ إِنَّهُۥ بِعِبَادِهِۦ خَبِيرُۢ بَصِيرٞ 27وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِي يُنَزِّلُ ٱلۡغَيۡثَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا قَنَطُواْ وَيَنشُرُ رَحۡمَتَهُۥۚ وَهُوَ ٱلۡوَلِيُّ ٱلۡحَمِيدُ28
ALLAH'S MERCY: 2) THE UNIVERSE
29And one of His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and all creatures He spread throughout both. And He has the power to bring all of them together whenever He decides. 30Whatever test you go through is for what you have done.' And He forgives a lot. 31You can never escape 'Him' on earth, and you have no protector or helper other than Allah.
وَمِنۡ ءَايَٰتِهِۦ خَلۡقُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا بَثَّ فِيهِمَا مِن دَآبَّةٖۚ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ جَمۡعِهِمۡ إِذَا يَشَآءُ قَدِيرٞ 29وَمَآ أَصَٰبَكُم مِّن مُّصِيبَةٖ فَبِمَا كَسَبَتۡ أَيۡدِيكُمۡ وَيَعۡفُواْ عَن كَثِيرٖ 30وَمَآ أَنتُم بِمُعۡجِزِينَ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ وَمَا لَكُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مِن وَلِيّٖ وَلَا نَصِيرٖ31
ALLAH'S MERCY: 3) SAILING SHIPS
32And one of His signs is the ships like mountains 'sailing' in the sea. 33If He wants, He can stop the wind, leaving those ships standing still on the water. Surely in this are lessons for whoever is patient and grateful. 34Or He can wreck the ships for what the people have done—though He forgives a lot— 35so those who question Our signs may know that they have no escape.
وَمِنۡ ءَايَٰتِهِ ٱلۡجَوَارِ فِي ٱلۡبَحۡرِ كَٱلۡأَعۡلَٰمِ 32إِن يَشَأۡ يُسۡكِنِ ٱلرِّيحَ فَيَظۡلَلۡنَ رَوَاكِدَ عَلَىٰ ظَهۡرِهِۦٓۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَٰتٖ لِّكُلِّ صَبَّارٖ شَكُورٍ 33أَوۡ يُوبِقۡهُنَّ بِمَا كَسَبُواْ وَيَعۡفُ عَن كَثِيرٖ 34وَيَعۡلَمَ ٱلَّذِينَ يُجَٰدِلُونَ فِيٓ ءَايَٰتِنَا مَا لَهُم مِّن مَّحِيصٖ35
QUALITIES OF THE FAITHFUL
36Whatever 'pleasure' you have been given is only for 'a short' enjoyment in this life. But what is with Allah is far better and more lasting for those who believe and put their trust in their Lord; 37who avoid big sins and shameful deeds, and forgive when angered; 38who respond to their Lord, pray salah, make decisions by discussing with each other, and donate from what We have provided for them; 39and who enforce justice when mistreated. 40Harm should only be paid back in the same way. But whoever forgives and makes peace, then their reward is with Allah. He definitely does not like those who do wrong. 41There is no blame on those who enforce justice after being wronged. 42Blame is only on those who abuse people and go too far in evil throughout the land unjustly. They will suffer a painful punishment. 43And whoever is patient and forgiving—surely this is something to aim for.
فَمَآ أُوتِيتُم مِّن شَيۡءٖ فَمَتَٰعُ ٱلۡحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡيَاۚ وَمَا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ خَيۡرٞ وَأَبۡقَىٰ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمۡ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ 36وَٱلَّذِينَ يَجۡتَنِبُونَ كَبَٰٓئِرَ ٱلۡإِثۡمِ وَٱلۡفَوَٰحِشَ وَإِذَا مَا غَضِبُواْ هُمۡ يَغۡفِرُونَ 37وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱسۡتَجَابُواْ لِرَبِّهِمۡ وَأَقَامُواْ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَأَمۡرُهُمۡ شُورَىٰ بَيۡنَهُمۡ وَمِمَّا رَزَقۡنَٰهُمۡ يُنفِقُونَ 38وَٱلَّذِينَ إِذَآ أَصَابَهُمُ ٱلۡبَغۡيُ هُمۡ يَنتَصِرُونَ 39وَجَزَٰٓؤُاْ سَيِّئَةٖ سَيِّئَةٞ مِّثۡلُهَاۖ فَمَنۡ عَفَا وَأَصۡلَحَ فَأَجۡرُهُۥ عَلَى ٱللَّهِۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ 40وَلَمَنِ ٱنتَصَرَ بَعۡدَ ظُلۡمِهِۦ فَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ مَا عَلَيۡهِم مِّن سَبِيلٍ 41إِنَّمَا ٱلسَّبِيلُ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ يَظۡلِمُونَ ٱلنَّاسَ وَيَبۡغُونَ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ بِغَيۡرِ ٱلۡحَقِّۚ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ لَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٞ 42وَلَمَن صَبَرَ وَغَفَرَ إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ لَمِنۡ عَزۡمِ ٱلۡأُمُورِ43
THE WICKED ON JUDGMENT DAY
44And whoever Allah leaves to stray will have no guide after Him. You will see those who did wrong, when they face the punishment, crying, “Is there any way back 'to the world?'” 45And you will see them exposed to the Fire—fully humbled in shame—looking 'secretly in horror'. And the believers will say, “The 'true' losers are those who have lost themselves and their families on Judgment Day.” Most certainly, those who do wrong will be in a never-ending punishment. 46They will have no protectors to help them against Allah. And whoever Allah allows to stray, for them there is no way.
وَمَن يُضۡلِلِ ٱللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن وَلِيّٖ مِّنۢ بَعۡدِهِۦۗ وَتَرَى ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ لَمَّا رَأَوُاْ ٱلۡعَذَابَ يَقُولُونَ هَلۡ إِلَىٰ مَرَدّٖ مِّن سَبِيلٖ 44وَتَرَىٰهُمۡ يُعۡرَضُونَ عَلَيۡهَا خَٰشِعِينَ مِنَ ٱلذُّلِّ يَنظُرُونَ مِن طَرۡفٍ خَفِيّٖۗ وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ إِنَّ ٱلۡخَٰسِرِينَ ٱلَّذِينَ خَسِرُوٓاْ أَنفُسَهُمۡ وَأَهۡلِيهِمۡ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِۗ أَلَآ إِنَّ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ فِي عَذَابٖ مُّقِيمٖ 45وَمَا كَانَ لَهُم مِّنۡ أَوۡلِيَآءَ يَنصُرُونَهُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِۗ وَمَن يُضۡلِلِ ٱللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن سَبِيلٍ46
WARNING TO UNGRATEFUL DISBELIEVERS
47Respond to your Lord before the coming of a Day from Allah that cannot be stopped. There will be no shelter for you then, and you will not be able to deny 'your sins'. 48But if they turn away, We have not sent you 'O Prophet' as a keeper over them. Your duty is only to 'deliver the message'. And surely when We give humans a taste of a mercy from Us, they become arrogant because of it. But when something bad happens to them because of what they did, then those people become totally ungrateful.'
ٱسۡتَجِيبُواْ لِرَبِّكُم مِّن قَبۡلِ أَن يَأۡتِيَ يَوۡمٞ لَّا مَرَدَّ لَهُۥ مِنَ ٱللَّهِۚ مَا لَكُم مِّن مَّلۡجَإٖ يَوۡمَئِذٖ وَمَا لَكُم مِّن نَّكِيرٖ 47فَإِنۡ أَعۡرَضُواْ فَمَآ أَرۡسَلۡنَٰكَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ حَفِيظًاۖ إِنۡ عَلَيۡكَ إِلَّا ٱلۡبَلَٰغُۗ وَإِنَّآ إِذَآ أَذَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ مِنَّا رَحۡمَةٗ فَرِحَ بِهَاۖ وَإِن تُصِبۡهُمۡ سَيِّئَةُۢ بِمَا قَدَّمَتۡ أَيۡدِيهِمۡ فَإِنَّ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ كَفُورٞ48
ALLAH'S GIFT OF CHILDREN
49The kingdom of the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah 'alone'. He creates whatever He wants. He blesses whoever He wants with daughters, and blesses whoever He wants with sons, 50or gives both—sons and daughters—and makes whoever He wants unable to have kids. He surely has perfect knowledge and power.
لِّلَّهِ مُلۡكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ يَخۡلُقُ مَا يَشَآءُۚ يَهَبُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ إِنَٰثٗا وَيَهَبُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ ٱلذُّكُورَ 49أَوۡ يُزَوِّجُهُمۡ ذُكۡرَانٗا وَإِنَٰثٗاۖ وَيَجۡعَلُ مَن يَشَآءُ عَقِيمًاۚ إِنَّهُۥ عَلِيمٞ قَدِيرٞ50
BACKGROUND STORY
Some non-Muslims told the Prophet (ﷺ), 'If you are really a prophet, why don't you see Allah and talk to Him as Musa (A.S.) did? We will not believe in you until you do that.' The Prophet (ﷺ) replied, 'But Musa (A.S.) never saw Allah in the first place.' So Allah revealed verse 51, telling them that He reveals to His prophets the way He wants, not the way you want.
The verse says that Allah communicates with His prophets in three ways: by inspiring them or sending a message in a dream, as He did with Ibrahim (A.S.) in the story of the sacrifice; by talking to them from behind a barrier, as He did with Musa (A.S.); or by sending an angel to deliver His messages to them, as He did with all prophets (A.S.).
HOW ALLAH TALKS TO PROPHETS
51It is not possible' for a human to have Allah talk to them, except through inspiration, or from behind a barrier, or by sending a messenger-angel to reveal whatever He wants by His permission. He is surely Most High and Wise.
وَمَا كَانَ لِبَشَرٍ أَن يُكَلِّمَهُ ٱللَّهُ إِلَّا وَحۡيًا أَوۡ مِن وَرَآيِٕ حِجَابٍ أَوۡ يُرۡسِلَ رَسُولٗا فَيُوحِيَ بِإِذۡنِهِۦ مَا يَشَآءُۚ إِنَّهُۥ عَلِيٌّ حَكِيمٞ51
THE LIGHT OF THE QURAN
52And so We have sent to you 'O Prophet' a revelation by Our command. You did not know of this Book and faith before. But We have made it a light, by which We guide whoever We want of Our servants. And you are truly leading 'all' to the Straight Path— 53the Path of Allah, to Whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Surely to Allah all matters will return 'for judgment'.
وَكَذَٰلِكَ أَوۡحَيۡنَآ إِلَيۡكَ رُوحٗا مِّنۡ أَمۡرِنَاۚ مَا كُنتَ تَدۡرِي مَا ٱلۡكِتَٰبُ وَلَا ٱلۡإِيمَٰنُ وَلَٰكِن جَعَلۡنَٰهُ نُورٗا نَّهۡدِي بِهِۦ مَن نَّشَآءُ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَاۚ وَإِنَّكَ لَتَهۡدِيٓ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطٖ مُّسۡتَقِيمٖ 52صِرَٰطِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّذِي لَهُۥ مَا فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِۗ أَلَآ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ تَصِيرُ ٱلۡأُمُورُ53
