The People of Quraysh

Allah saved the Ka'bah from the Army of the Elephants, and made the people of Makkah always feel safe when they travelled to Yemen in the winter and Syria in the summer for business.

To thank Allah for this big favour, they should worship Him alone, not those useless idols.

We should thank Allah for food, drink, security, and all other blessings.

Imagine if someone gives you a house, a job, a car, and lots of money, then instead of thanking him or her you thank someone else. In this surah, Allah is asking the people of Quraysh to thank and worship Him alone for His blessings instead of worshipping their useless idols. Showing gratitude to those idols for Allah's favours is like sending a thank-you letter to the wrong address.
