those who abuse the believers (including the idol-worshippers and the people of pharaoh) will suffer the punishment of burning.
allah has the power to deal with the abusers.
the believers are promised a great reward in jannah.
BACKGROUND STORY
This tragic story took place in Najran (a city in the south of Arabia, close to the Red Sea), 46 years before the birth of the Prophet . The king of that land, who was an idol-worshipper, tortured the believers to make them leave their faith. He dug a big ditch and filled it with fire to burn those who didn't obey him. Whole families were thrown into that ditch, including women and their children. (Recorded by Imam At-Tabari}
ABUSING THE BELIEVERS
1By the sky filled with sets of stars, 2and the promised Day 'of Judgment', 3and the witness' and what is witnessed!? 4Doomed are those who dug the big ditch 5the fire pit', filled with fuel 6when they sat around it, 7watching what they did to the believers, 8whose only crime was their belief in Allah—the Almighty, the One deserving praise 9to Whom the kingdom of the heavens and earth belongs. And Allah is a Witness over all things. 10Those who abuse the believing men and women and then do not repent will definitely suffer the punishment of Jahannam and the punishment of burning. 11Surely those who believe and do good will have Gardens under which rivers flow. That is the biggest success.
وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلۡبُرُوجِ 1وَٱلۡيَوۡمِ ٱلۡمَوۡعُودِ 2وَشَاهِدٖ وَمَشۡهُودٖ 3قُتِلَ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡأُخۡدُودِ 4ٱلنَّارِ ذَاتِ ٱلۡوَقُودِ 5إِذۡ هُمۡ عَلَيۡهَا قُعُودٞ 6وَهُمۡ عَلَىٰ مَا يَفۡعَلُونَ بِٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ شُهُودٞ 7وَمَا نَقَمُواْ مِنۡهُمۡ إِلَّآ أَن يُؤۡمِنُواْ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلۡعَزِيزِ ٱلۡحَمِيدِ 8ٱلَّذِي لَهُۥ مُلۡكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيۡءٖ شَهِيدٌ 9إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ فَتَنُواْ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ وَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَٰتِ ثُمَّ لَمۡ يَتُوبُواْ فَلَهُمۡ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابُ ٱلۡحَرِيقِ 10إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ لَهُمۡ جَنَّٰتٞ تَجۡرِي مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرُۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلۡفَوۡزُ ٱلۡكَبِيرُ11
Verse 10: Each of Allah's prophets, including Muhammad, who will be witnesses for or against their own people on Judgment Day.
Verse 11: Judgment Day which will be witnessed by everyone.
WARNING TO ARAB IDOL-WORSHIPPERS
12Surely the crushing' grip of your Lord is really tough. 13He is the One Who creates the first time and later brings all back to life. 14And He is the Forgiving and Loving 15Lord of the Throne, Full of Glory, 16always doing whatever He wants. 17Did you O Prophet' hear the story of the destroyed' forces— 18'the forces of' Pharaoh and Thamud? 19Still the disbelievers continue to deny. 20But Allah covers them from all sides. 21In fact, this is a Quran, full of glory, 22'written' in a Protected Book.
إِنَّ بَطۡشَ رَبِّكَ لَشَدِيدٌ 12إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ يُبۡدِئُ وَيُعِيدُ 13وَهُوَ ٱلۡغَفُورُ ٱلۡوَدُودُ 14ذُو ٱلۡعَرۡشِ ٱلۡمَجِيدُ 15فَعَّالٞ لِّمَا يُرِيدُ 16هَلۡ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلۡجُنُودِ 17فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَثَمُودَ 18بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ فِي تَكۡذِيبٖ 19وَٱللَّهُ مِن وَرَآئِهِم مُّحِيطُۢ 20بَلۡ هُوَ قُرۡءَانٞ مَّجِيدٞ 21فِي لَوۡحٖ مَّحۡفُوظِۢ22
Verse 22: This heavenly Book, known as Al-Lawh Al-Mahfouz (the Pre- served Tablet), is kept with Allah. It has all the details of ev- erything that happened in the past and everything that will happen in the future.
