LEARNING POINTS
Allah's power to create this world proves His ability to bring everyone back to life for judgment.
Judgment Day will be full of horrors for the deniers of judgment.
The wicked will end up in Jahannam, and the believers will enjoy themselves in Jannah.
This is the last surah the Prophet recited in prayer before he passed away. {Recorded by Imam At-Tirmizi & Imam Ahmad}
WORDS OF WISDOM
Just like the previous and the following surahs, this surah focuses on what will happen to the believers and the disbelievers in the Next Life. When we keep in mind that we have to answer for our choices and actions in front of Allah on Judgment Day, this will motivate us to do the things that lead to Jannah and stay away from the things that lead to Jahannam.
SIDE STORY
A man named Jabir was taken to the hospital with a broken arm and neck. The doctor noticed that the people who visited Jabir would laugh as soon as they left his room. When he asked Jabir why, he answered, 'This is all because of an interesting dream. I always read and think about Judgment Day. Two days ago, I went to bed, which was next to the window. As soon as I slept, I saw myself waking up for judgment. Then I found myself on a bus going to Jannah. Although the road sign said 1,000 miles per hour, the bus driver was going at only 70 miles. Everyone was begging him to go faster, but he slowed down even more. At last, we arrived in front of Jannah, but the bus didn't stop. We saw another sign that said The way to Jahannam-70 miles per hour, and the driver went 1,000 miles per hour. Everyone begged him to slow down, but he went faster, until we saw the flames and smoke from a distance. Everybody screamed, 'Stop, please! Open the door!' but the driver wouldn't listen. Then we were getting closer and closer to Jahannam, and everyone freaked out. Finally, someone shouted, 'You have a window next to you-jump!' And this is exactly what I did-I jumped out of the window next to my bed, and I broke my arm and neck.' A nurse (who was observing through the glass window) noticed that the doctor felt sorry for Jabir but started to laugh as soon as he left the room. The nurse asked Jabir why, and he said, 'This is all because of an interesting dream...'
JUDGMENT DAY IS COMING FOR SURE
1By those winds' sent forth in waves, 2and blowing hard, 3and spreading 'rain clouds' far and wide! 4And 'by' those angels' fully pointing out 'the truth from lies', 5and bringing down revelations, 6ending excuses and giving warnings! 7What you are promised will definitely Come true.
وَٱلۡمُرۡسَلَٰتِ عُرۡفٗا 1فَٱلۡعَٰصِفَٰتِ عَصۡفٗا 2وَٱلنَّٰشِرَٰتِ نَشۡرٗا 3فَٱلۡفَٰرِقَٰتِ فَرۡقٗا 4فَٱلۡمُلۡقِيَٰتِ ذِكۡرًا 5عُذۡرًا أَوۡ نُذۡرًا 6إِنَّمَا تُوعَدُونَ لَوَٰقِعٞ7
HORRORS OF JUDGMENT DAY
8So when the stars are put out, 9and the sky is torn apart, 10and the mountains are blown away, 11and the messengers' time 'to witness' comes up— 12for which Day has all this been set? 13For the Day of 'Final' Decision!! 14And what will make you realize what the Day of Decision is? 15It will be horrible on that Day for the deniers!
فَإِذَا ٱلنُّجُومُ طُمِسَتۡ 8وَإِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ فُرِجَتۡ 9وَإِذَا ٱلۡجِبَالُ نُسِفَتۡ 10وَإِذَا ٱلرُّسُلُ أُقِّتَتۡ 11لِأَيِّ يَوۡمٍ أُجِّلَتۡ 12لِيَوۡمِ ٱلۡفَصۡلِ 13وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا يَوۡمُ ٱلۡفَصۡلِ 14وَيۡلٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ15
ALLAH'S POWER
16Did We not destroy earlier deniers? 17And We will make the later ones follow them. 18This is how We deal with the wicked. 19It will be horrible on that Day for the deniers! 20Did We not create you from a little human seed, 21placing it in a secure place in the womb 22until a set time? 23We 'perfectly' planned 'its growth'. How excellent are We in doing so! 24It will be horrible on that Day for the deniers! 25Have We not made the earth as a home 26for the living and the dead, 27and put upon it high, stable mountains, and given you fresh water to drink? 28It will be horrible on that Day for the deniers!
أَلَمۡ نُهۡلِكِ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ 16ثُمَّ نُتۡبِعُهُمُ ٱلۡأٓخِرِينَ 17كَذَٰلِكَ نَفۡعَلُ بِٱلۡمُجۡرِمِينَ 18وَيۡلٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ 19أَلَمۡ نَخۡلُقكُّم مِّن مَّآءٖ مَّهِينٖ 20فَجَعَلۡنَٰهُ فِي قَرَارٖ مَّكِينٍ 21إِلَىٰ قَدَرٖ مَّعۡلُومٖ 22فَقَدَرۡنَا فَنِعۡمَ ٱلۡقَٰدِرُونَ 23وَيۡلٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ 24أَلَمۡ نَجۡعَلِ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ كِفَاتًا 25أَحۡيَآءٗ وَأَمۡوَٰتٗا 26وَجَعَلۡنَا فِيهَا رَوَٰسِيَ شَٰمِخَٰتٖ وَأَسۡقَيۡنَٰكُم مَّآءٗ فُرَاتٗا 27وَيۡلٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ28
BAD NEWS FOR THE DENIERS OF HELL
29The deniers will be told, "Go into that fire' which you used to deny! 30Go into the shade 'of smoke' which rises in three columns, 31giving no coolness or shelter from the flames. 32Surely it throws sparks 'as big' as huge castles, 33and 'as dark' as black camels 34It will be horrible on that Day for the deniers! 35On that Day they will not 'be in a position to' speak, 36and they will not be allowed to make excuses. 37It will be horrible on that Day for the deniers! 38"They will be told by Allah."This is the Day of 'Final' Decision-We have gathered you along with earlier deniers" for punishment'. 39So if you have some plan 'to save yourselves', then use it against Me." 40It will be horrible on that Day for the deniers!
ٱنطَلِقُوٓاْ إِلَىٰ مَا كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ 29ٱنطَلِقُوٓاْ إِلَىٰ ظِلّٖ ذِي ثَلَٰثِ شُعَبٖ 30لَّا ظَلِيلٖ وَلَا يُغۡنِي مِنَ ٱللَّهَبِ 31إِنَّهَا تَرۡمِي بِشَرَرٖ كَٱلۡقَصۡرِ 32كَأَنَّهُۥ جِمَٰلَتٞ صُفۡرٞ 33وَيۡلٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ 34هَٰذَا يَوۡمُ لَا يَنطِقُونَ 35وَلَا يُؤۡذَنُ لَهُمۡ فَيَعۡتَذِرُونَ 36وَيۡلٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ 37هَٰذَا يَوۡمُ ٱلۡفَصۡلِۖ جَمَعۡنَٰكُمۡ وَٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ 38فَإِن كَانَ لَكُمۡ كَيۡدٞ فَكِيدُونِ 39وَيۡلٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ40
GOOD NEWS FOR THE BELIEVERS
41Surely the faithful will be in the middle of 'cool' shade and springs 42and any fruit they desire. 43They will be told, "Eat and drink happily for what you used to do." 44Surely this is how We reward those who do good. 45But' it will be horrible on that Day for the deniers!
إِنَّ ٱلۡمُتَّقِينَ فِي ظِلَٰلٖ وَعُيُونٖ 41وَفَوَٰكِهَ مِمَّا يَشۡتَهُونَ 42كُلُواْ وَٱشۡرَبُواْ هَنِيَٓٔۢا بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ 43إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجۡزِي ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ 44وَيۡلٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ45
WARNING TO THE DENIERS
46Eat and enjoy yourselves for a little while, for you are truly wicked." 47It will be horrible on that Day for the deniers! 48When it is said to them, "Bow down 'before Allah,' they do not bow. 49It will be horrible on that Day for the deniers! 50So what message after this 'Quran' will they believe in?
كُلُواْ وَتَمَتَّعُواْ قَلِيلًا إِنَّكُم مُّجۡرِمُونَ 46وَيۡلٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ 47وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ ٱرۡكَعُواْ لَا يَرۡكَعُونَ 48وَيۡلٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ 49فَبِأَيِّ حَدِيثِۢ بَعۡدَهُۥ يُؤۡمِنُونَ50
