LEARNING POINTS

LEARNING POINTS

This is an invitation to humans and jinn to acknowledge Allah's many blessings

Based on how much everyone appreciated Allah's favours and obeyed Him, they will be divided into 3 groups on Judgment Day:

1 The disbelievers (the people of the left who will receive their book of deeds in their left hand).

2 The average believers (the people of the right who will receive their book of deeds in their right hand).

3 And the best of the believers.

WORDS OF WISDOM

WORDS OF WISDOM

There are two types of people in this world. Those who have the 'bee eye' and those who have the 'fly eye. A bee and a fly see the same things when they are in the air. However, the bee chooses to land on flowers, and the fly chooses to land on gar- bage. Some people are able to see and appreciate Allah's bless- ings. Others fail to see any good in their life and only whine about negative things.

An old man did a social experiment to see how people would react to good and bad things. For 3 straight days he threw 10-dollar bills from his balcony on the 2nd floor. He noticed that people always picked up the money and left right away. For the next 3 days, he was throwing empty juice boxes and chip bags. He noticed that many people now acted differently. They picked up the empty boxes and bags, looked up, right, and left, and started cussing. He concluded that many people fail to thank for the good, and only complain about the bad.

The Prophet asked Abu Zarr, Do you think a person with a lot of money is rich and a person with no money is poor? Abu Zarr answered, Yes. The Prophet told him that a person with a grateful heart is rich even if they have nothing, and a person with an ungrateful heart is poor even if they have lots of money. (Recorded by Imam Ibn Hibban)}

A Canadian teacher asked his 3rd grade students to make a list of what they thought were the 7 modern wonders of the world. Most students listed famous wonders like the pyramids of Egypt, the Great Wall of China, and Taj Mahal. Some even listed Disneyland and Tim Hortons. One girl (named Yasmin) was the last to submit her list. She wrote:

1.The eyes we see with.

2.The ears we hear with.

3.The tongue we taste with..

4.The nose we smell with.

5.The skin we feel with..

6.The face we smile with.

7.And the heart we love with.

Yasmin said, These are the most precious blessings that we don't usually give thanks for. Our life would be difficult without any of them. We should always say, 'Al-hum-du-lillah'

5The sun and the moon ‘travel’ in a precise way. 6The stars and the trees bow down ‘in obedience’. 7As for the sky, He raised it high, and set the balance of justice, 8So that you do not cheat in the scales. 9Weigh with justice, and do not give less than what is due.

ALLAH's Favours

1) Favour 3)Resources

10He laid out the earth for all creation. 11In it are fruit, palm trees with date stalks, 12And grain with wrappings, and good-smelling plants. 13Then which of your Lord’s favours will you ‘humans and jinn’ both deny?

ALLAH's Favours

1) Favour 4)Creating Human and jinn

14He created humankind from ‘empty’ clay like pottery, 15And created jinn from ‘smokeless’ flames of fire. 16Then which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny?

17‘He is’ Lord of the two easts and the two wests. 18Then which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny? 19He joins the two bodies of ‘fresh and salt’ water, 20Yet between them is a barrier they never cross. 21Then which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny? 22Out of both ‘waters’ come out pearls and corals. 23Then which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny? 24To Him belong the ships with raised sails, ‘running’ through the seas like mountains. 25Then which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny?

Verse 25: There are different points of sunrise and Sunset in the summer and winter. The change of seasons is caused by the tilted ro- tation of the earth close to or away from the sun. If the earth stopped rotating, it would not be suitable for living anymore. This is why seasons are listed as one of the blessings of Allah.

ALLAH's Favours

26Every creation on earth is going to die. 27Only your Lord Himself, full of Majesty and Honour, will remain ‘forever’. 28Then which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny?

Verse 28: Moving to the Next Life is a blessing from Allah because it puts an end to suffering and injustices.

WORDS OF WISDOM

WORDS OF WISDOM

According to the following passage, everyone and everything in this universe needs Allah. Even those who say He doesn't exist still need Him for their existence. Who gives them the air they breathe? Who gives them the water they drink? Who controls their heartbeats? In comparison, if we like someone, we give them what they want. But if we dislike someone, we don't give them anything. But Allah never cuts anyone's air supply just because they don't believe in Him. He never stops His mercy Ar-Rahman to someone just because He doesn't like what they do. He only judges them in the Next Life. This is why this surah calls Him Ar-Rahman (the Most Kind).

WORDS OF WISDOM

WORDS OF WISDOM

This surah lists many of Allah's blessings. The fol- lowing passage is a 'warning against punishment, which is counted as a blessing from Allah, But why? To understand this, think about this story: Jamal and his family are travelling on the highway. They notice two sets of signs on the road:

One set gives information about services available along the highway such as rest ar- eas, gas stations, and restaurants.

The other set gives warnings against going over the speed limit as well as accidents and fires ahead.

Jamal appreciates both sets of signs because they make his trip safe and comfortable, This is also true for 'wet floor' signs because they protect us from slipping. In the same way, we should appreciate the following warning, be cause it will keep us safe from punishment on Judgment Day.

Punishment of the people of the left

31We will soon take care ‘of the judgment’ of you, O two big groups ‘of jinn and humans’! 32Then which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny? 33O crowds of jinn and humans! If you can pass beyond the limits of the heavens and the earth, then do so. ‘But’ you cannot do that without ‘Our’ authority. 34Then which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny? 35Flames of fire and ‘choking’ smoke will be sent against you, and you will not be able to defend each other. 36Then which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny? 37‘How horrible will it be’ when the heavens will split open, becoming rose-red like ‘burnt’ oil! 38Then which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny? 39On that Day there will be no need for any human or jinn to be asked about their sins. 40Then which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny? 41The wicked will be recognized by their miserable faces, then will be pulled by ‘their’ forelocks and feet. 42Then which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny? 43‘They will be told,’ “This is Jahannam which the wicked said did not exist.” 44They will go back and forth between its flames and boiling water. 45Then which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny?

46And whoever is anxious of ‘standing before their Lord’ will have two Gardens. 47Then which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny? 48‘Both will be’ full of branches. 49Then which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny? 50In each ‘of the two Gardens’ will be two running springs. 51Then which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny? 52In each will be two types of every fruit. 53Then which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny? 54Those ‘believers’ will be relaxing on fancy furnishings lined with rich silk. 55And the fruit of both Gardens will be easy to pick. 56Then which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny? 57In both ‘Gardens’ will be heavenly wives – never looking beyond their husbands – who no human or jinn has ever touched before. 58Then which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny? 59Those ‘wives’ will be as gorgeous as rubies and coral. 60Then which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny? 61Is there any reward for goodness except goodness?
